Do you notice a mood shift around this time of year? You’re not alone! At least 20% of Americans struggle with the “winter blues,” and people living in the Midwest and Northern states are more susceptible.

The days are shorter and colder, which messes with our body’s rhythm.

There are a few ways you can mitigate the winter blues:

  1. Use a light therapy lamp.
  2. Try to get sun first thing in the morning, by going outside or using a light therapy lamp.
  3. Open as many blinds as possible to optimize natural lighting in your space.
  4. Try to move your body. If it’s too cold to go outside, YouTube has many (free!) guided workouts.
  5. Try to stick to a sleep routine.
  6. Use a dawn simulator alarm clock.
