Medication Evaluation and Management Services
Psych Genetics Testing for Medication Precision
Ann Arbor Counseling Associates offers the option to our existing therapy clients, both children and adults, to be evaluated and treated by our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to determine if medications can help you.
Why take medication?
There are many reasons why you might choose this option. Some reasons why others have chosen medications include having a diagnosis that can only be managed with medication, difficulty making gains in counseling because symptoms are too overwhelming, or working with a therapist to learn skills to manage mood but still needing help reducing symptoms.
How are we different?
Ann Arbor Counseling offers traditional medication evaluation services along with optional genetics testing to help pinpoint the best medication for you to maximize your success faster. If you have not had success in the past, worry about the trial and error reality of finding the right medication, Psych Genetic Testing might be a solution. A simple mouth swab and lab can produce your unique DNA profile that will provide suggestions on medications that will reduce your symptoms and have the least results. This service is covered by most insurances.
Additionally, our Nurse Practitioner has been recognized as a Top Doctor of Nursing Practice by the International Association of Nurse Practitioners in 2018. Her thorough and holistic approach ensures that clients total health is considered when making decisions with her patients about introducing psychiatric medications to their treatment.
What is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner?
Our prescribers are trained in the field of nursing and psychiatry with rights to prescribe medications for mental health patients. Having a background in nursing means that your provider will have a holistic approach to medication evaluation and management. They are going to be looking, not just at your mental health, but your whole self to make sure that the medication prescribed is best suited for you and your health needs.
Our Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners also will take time with you. It is our goal and theirs to make sure that you are informed. This means listening to you, finding out what is working for you, and what is not, and figuring out a plan together so that you can achieve a reduction in your symptoms using the medications that are best suited for your needs.
How to obtain a referral to our NP
If you are an existing therapy client and would like to learn if medications could help you alleviate your symptoms or gain emotional regulation, please ask your therapist for more information. Your therapist will gather some information for the PNP and you will be contacted, based on your preferences, with an initial appointment.
